ONE HEALTH

Una visione integrata dell’ecosistema biologico

One Health is an integrated approach that promotes collaboration among multiple disciplines and sectors to address the challenges related to human, animal, and environmental health in an interconnected manner. This approach stems from the awareness that human, animal, and environmental health are closely linked, making it important to better understand their interdependence to prevent potential health crises and lay the groundwork for living on a more sustainable planet. The multidisciplinary approach of One Health enables direct collaboration among doctors, veterinarians, ecologists, biologists, epidemiologists, environmental scientists, and other professionals. They work together to tackle health challenges and gain a better understanding of disease dynamics by studying their origins and monitoring emerging threats.

A Holistic Approach

One Health aims to ensure the health and well-being of all living beings on Earth, recognizing that human health is inextricably linked to the health of animals and the environment. The importance of One Health has been highlighted by events such as pandemics (e.g., COVID-19), climate change, and zoonotic threats, which require an interconnected vision to prevent and address global health challenges.
The One Health concept also emphasizes the importance of a preventive rather than reactive approach. Through collaboration among governments, international organizations, the scientific community, and the private sector, efforts are made to anticipate and mitigate health risks before they manifest as crises. For example, monitoring natural ecosystems can help identify changes that might lead to new health threats.
